United States Department of Defense Tests Out Blockchain Technology to Enhance Cybersecurity

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is considering implementing blockchain technology to enhance its cybersecurity.

In the publication titled “DoD Digital Modernization Strategy: DoD Information Resource Management Strategic Plan FY19-23,” outlined the roadmap to implement and support the National Defense Strategy through the lens of cloud, artificial intelligence, command, control and communications, and cybersecurity.

In the section titled “Block Chain Cybersecurity Shield”, says that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is currently experimenting with the blockchain technology that allows personnel to transmit secure messages or process transactions that can be traced back via several channels of a decentralized ledger. Some of the applications included fostering the communication between units and headquarters, and information transfer between units and headquarters.

DARPA also has been involved in developing an unhackable code as the blockchain technology can offer intelligence on hackers who attempt to impede the security system.
